Bio

Ken is a native of Orlando, Florida. He was awarded a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Alabama School of Commerce in 1973, and a Juris Doctorate Degree from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1976. For over 35 years, Ken Hooks has championed the causes of victims from all walks of life --- representing some of Alabama's most humble and disadvantaged citizens to some of her most celebrated and fortunate. He has taken on many of the world's largest and most powerful corporations on behalf of his clients, and has fought tenaciously throughout his career for safer workplaces, improved consumer and industrial products, better medical care, a cleaner environment and more fairness in the insurance industry. Some of Ken's greatest battles have been waged to compensate innocent children and their families for catastrophic injuries and deaths caused by dangerous products, and to force the improvement of those products or their removal from the marketplace. Ken specializes in representing victims and their families in cases involving catastrophic injury or death caused by work-related accidents, defective products, truck and automobile accidents, unsafe premises and medical malpractice. He also has extensive expertise litigating significant cases involving fraud, insurance claims, business disputes, and environmental contamination. His long history of substantial verdicts and settlements, and his skill, determination and character have won him great praise from the judges who have presided over his trials and appeals, the defense lawyers who have defended his claims and co-counsel who have fought alongside him to obtain justice for their clients. Ken is a past president of the Alabama Trial Lawyers Association, the predecessor to the Alabama Association for Justice. Through the years, he has been instrumental in many battles to defeat both state and federal legislation intended to abolish or limit the rights of injury victims, and he has been a dedicated foot soldier in the never-ending war to preserve the civil justice system and insure that ordinary citizens always have access to our courts. As part of this effort, Ken has spoken to and testified before the Alabama Senate and House of Representatives on numerous tort reform and other legislative issues. He is a past president of the Alabama Civil Justice Foundation, a charitable organization whose mission is to assist in removing barriers to a civil and just society for Alabama families and children. Since its inception, ACJF has awarded nearly $9 million to organizations throughout the state that serve Alabama’s needy children, families and seniors. And, as part of his commitment to the University of Alabama, Ken has served as a trustee of the University's School of Law Foundation.
