Bio

Mr. Stone is a trial lawyer from Atlanta and Blakely, Georgia, who specializes in the trial of complex cases involving personal injury, wrongful death, professional malpractice, product liability, commercial and consumer fraud, and insurance bad faith.  He is the senior member of his own firm, The STONE LAW GROUP - TIRAL LAWYERS, LLC , 589 College Street, Blakely, Georgia 39823, and 3050 Peachtree Road, NW, Two Buckhead Plaza, Suite 360, Atlanta, Georgia 30305.  The firm’s predecessor was founded in 1915 by Mr. Stone's grandfather, the late Wm. Lowrey Stone.  Past members of the firm include Mr. Stone's father, Lowrey S. Stone, who formerly served as Chief Judge of Superior Courts, Pataula Judicial Circuit.

Mr. Stone was born in Dothan, Alabama, on August 19, 1953.  He attended the public schools in Early County, Georgia and graduated from Early County High School in 1971.  He attended the University of Georgia College of Business Administration and received a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with a major in accounting on graduation in 1975.  Mr. Stone also attended the Netherlands Institute of Industrial Economics near Amsterdam in The Netherlands for one year in 1973.

Mr. Stone received his Juris Doctor Degree from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1977.  He was admitted to practice law in the state of Georgia in 1977 and in the state of Alabama in 1985.  He is also member of the bars of all Georgia and Alabama state courts, the United States District Courts for the Middle and Northern Districts of Georgia, the Northern, Middle, and Southern Districts of Alabama, and the Central District of Illinois, as well as the United States Courts of Appeals for the Fourth, Fifth, and Eleventh Circuits, and the United States Court of Federal Claims.

The Georgia State Bar General Practice and Trial Section chose Mr. Stone as its 2016 recipient of its prestigious Tradition of Excellence Award in Plaintiff’s Trial Practice.

The publishers of the Martindale Hubble Law Directory have awarded Mr. Stone its highest rating (AV® Preeminent™) for legal ability and integrity, and its Client Distinction Award for excellence in quality of service, overall value, responsiveness, and communication ability.

In 2014 Mr. Stone was the inaugural inductee into American Law and Media’s Georgia Verdict’s hall of fame for his record setting $41 million verdict for a single wrongful death and with an additional $14 million award of attorney’s fees in Foster v. Landstar Ranger, Inc. et al.

Since 2004 Mr. Stone has been continuously named a Super Lawyer by the Thompson-Reuters national survey, and one of the Best Lawyers in America and Georgia in the field of personal injury litigation by the U. S. News Media Group survey.

In 2014 Best Lawyers named Mr. Stone Best Lawyer of the Year for 2013 in the Atlanta, Georgia Market for Plaintiff’s personal Injury Litigation.

Mr. Stone is a Life Member and past president of the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association, and is also a member of the American Bar Association, the State Bar of Georgia, the Alabama State Bar, the American Association for Justice (AAJ), the American Trial Lawyers Association, and the Attorneys Information Exchange Group (AIEG).

Mr. Stone currently serves as a member of the AIEG Board of Directors.

Mr. Stone served on the AAJ Board of Governors from 1993-2006 representing Georgia.  Mr. Stone is a member of the AAJ President’s Club and Leaders Forum, and has served as Co-chair of the AAJ Ethics Committee.

Mr. Stone has served from 1999 through 2002 on the Georgia Judicial Nominating Commission that recommends candidates to the Governor for appointment to vacant judgeships in Georgia.

Mr. Stone has authored a number of published articles and is a frequent lecturer at legal seminars on the subject of trial practice, tort law, and civil RICO actions.
