Bio

Michael M. Guerra was born and raised in McAllen, Texas. He is a sixth generation South Texan. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas and a law degree from Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas in 1993. Mr. Guerra was an American Jurisprudence Award recipient in Constitutional law. Mr. Guerra is certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Personal Injury Trial Law. He was co-counsel for the Plaintiffs in an oilfield related case styled Coria vs. Key Energy that was named one of Texas Lawyer's "Top Verdicts and Settlements of 2000."
Mr. Guerra was also co-counsel for hundreds of plaintiffs in the mass environmental contamination case styled Linn-Faysville Aquifer Preservation Association vs. Republic Waste Industries Inc. He was again in the national spotlight as a key member of the plaintiffs' trial team in the first Firestone tire/Ford Explorer case to reach a jury. Mr. Guerra was co-lead counsel for the plaintiffs in a residential fire case involving flammability of foam issues that settled for a confidential sum, considered to be historic in nature. Additionally, Mr. Guerra's efforts have brought about countless life altering, and life improving case resolutions for his clients and the general public. For example, due in part to his efforts, an automotive manufacturer has initiated a recall of a dangerous fuel system, potentially saving future vehicle occupants from injury and/or death from post collision fuel fed fires. Even more recently, his efforts were a cause of a change in fire safety as it pertains to Recreational Vehicles. Because of Mr. Guerra's efforts and his clients' steadfastness, a key safety feature will become mandatory on all RVs sold in the United States beginning 2017. Mr. Guerra was lead counsel in Verdict Search's Number One Motor Vehicle Verdict in Texas in 2012, Roberts v. Bick's Construction, Inc. where the jury assessed over $33 million in damages.
Mr. Guerra has been featured as a speaker in many civil litigation seminars and his articles have been featured in national publications. His cases have been profiled by, or he has been quoted by numerous major news organizations such as the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, the Huffington Post, the Denver Post, CNN and Fox News.
He is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA); Attorney Information Exchange Group (AIEG); The American Trial Lawyers Association (ATLA); The Texas Trial Lawyers Association (TTLA). He has been named Texas Super Lawyer in multiple and consecutive years.
