Bio

Wayne E. Ferrell, Jr. graduated with a Master of Laws in Aviation and Space Law from the Institute of Air & Space Law, McGill University, Montreal, Quebec, Canada, in 1981, submitting his Masters Thesis on Aircraft Manufacturer’s Liability.  Wayne Ferrell obtained his Juris Doctor degree from Mississippi College School of Law and a Bachelors of Arts degree in Business and Economics from Millsaps College in 1969.  Wayne was a pilot in the Mississippi Air National Guard for a period of 24 years flying RF101C (Voodoo) aircraft; RF4C (Phantom) aircraft; and Fairchild C-26 aircraft.  Wayne was Deputy Commander of Maintenance for five years and was responsible for maintaining RF4C aircraft, Fairchild C-26 aircraft and KC135R aircraft.  He attended the Aircraft Accident Investigation Course at the University of Southern California in 1989; Accelerated Aircraft Maintenance Officer School at Chanute Air Force Base in 1986; and Judge Advocate Officer’s Advanced Course, U.S. Army’s Judge Advocate General’s School in Charlottesville, Virginia in 1985.  He attended U.S. Air Force Undergraduate Pilot Training at Williams Air Force Base in Chandler, Arizona from 1970 to 1971; U.S. Air Force Combat Ready Training on RF101C aircraft at Little Rock Air Force Base in Jacksonville, Arkansas from 1971 to 1972; and U.S. Air Force Combat Ready Training on RF4C aircraft at the Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina in 1979.

Wayne Ferrell has served or is serving as a member of the American Bar Association; the Forum on Air and Space Law; the Aviation and Space Law Committee of the Section of Tort and Insurance Practice; the Aviation Committee for the Litigation Section; a member of the Standing Committee on Aeronautical Law from 1983 to 1984; and the only Young Lawyer Liaison member to the Standing Committee on Aeronautical Law from 1982 to 1983.

Wayne Ferrell has served or is serving as a member of the Mississippi State Bar; Secretary of the Young Lawyers Division; a member of the Character and Fitness Committee; Committee on Specialization; and a member of the Ethics Committee.  Wayne is a member of the National Transportation Safety Board Bar Association and was Regional Vice President from 1988 to 1989.  Wayne is a member of the International Air Transportation and Safety Bar Association.  He is a member of the American Trial Lawyers Association; was a charter member of the ATLA President’s Club; and a member of the Aviation Committee.  Wayne is also a Lifetime Member of the Mississippi Trial Lawyers Association; a member of the Board of Governors from 1982 to 1983; Chairman of the Products Liability Committee from 1982 to 1983; and Chairman of the Aviation Law Committee from 1982 to 1994.  Wayne is a member of the President of the Millsaps College M-Club and received the 2000 Distinguished Athletic Service Award.  He was the President of the Mississippi College School of Law Alumni Association from 1979 to 1980 and a member of the Board of Directors from 1978 to 1981.  Wayne Ferrell was honored as the Mississippi College School of Law Alumnus of the Year in 1983; a member of the Leadership Jackson Class of 1992- 1993; and named Amateur Athletic Union Outstanding Volunteer in 1994.  He was named by the Metro Jackson Convention & Visitors Bureau “1996 Hometown Hero.”  He is also involved in youth basketball as an AAU organizer and coach having organized youth basketball tournaments from 1989 to 2001, and organized the AAU National Invitational Championship in Jackson, Mississippi in 1994.  Wayne is currently Vice President of the Brain Injury Association of Mississippi; has been a member of the Board of Directors from 1994 to the present; and has been its legal advisor from 1994 to the present.
